Podcasts et baladodiffusion Education - Langues

Le podcasting ou baladodiffusion est un moyen de diffusion de fichiers audio sur le web, auxquels peuvent s´abonner les internautes, via un flux de syndication (RSS). Les termes audioblog, radioblog ou podcast représentent différentes variantes intégrant des fichiers son, du streaming ou un fil RSS dans un weblog.

 

"Mobile technologies (podcasting) open a new space of possibilities by making the support more integrated into the everyday activities of students (learners of a language). For example, a student travelling to France might capture a video or audio clip of an event that is relevant to other learners that do not have access to it because they are remotely distributed. The students can share the material on the fly, possibly getting immediate feedback from other people, e.g. the request to capture other information."    (S.A.Petersen, M. Combined with self-evaluation activities, voice recording technology can also contribute to metacognitive awareness, i.e., “the ability to reflect upon, understand and control one’s learning,” (Schraw and Dennison, 1994), an important component of the learning process (Swain, 1985).  <br/>This exploratory study examines multiple learning activities in conversation courses designed to develop spontaneous second language (L2) oral proficiency. It also investigates learners’ perception of what is needed to improve. Data were gathered in two university L2 conversation courses: an intermediate German course, and an advanced French course. Some of the activities proposed in those courses employed voice recording technology and rubrics to enhance metacognition skills, while others did not.<br/>Preliminary results show that students gained from using audio technology and rubrics as they reported benefitting from paying more attention to their speech, which helped them correct their errors. Although not all favored those exercises, a vast majority acknowledged the need to be pushed in order to become proficient, no matter the activity in which they engage. Developing activities that enhance their Willingness To Communicate (McCroskey &amp; Richmond, 1991; MacIntyre 2007) as well as their metacognitive awareness seemed to have a positive impact.</p> <p></p> <p>Lord, G. As instructors, we must decide how to emphasize pronunciation and what techniques to use. This article discusses a collaborative podcasting project in an undergraduate Spanish phonetics class. Students worked in small groups to create and maintain their own podcast channel on which they uploaded recordings for group member feedback. Each recording focused on particular aspects of Spanish pronunciation, using tongue twisters, short readings, and personal reflection on students' own pronunciation. Both attitudes and pronunciation abilities were assessed before and after the project, and both were found to improve. The benefits of podcasting projects to improve language skills are discussed from an empirical as well as a pedagogical perspective</p>">
